Japan wants babies. Lots of babies. They're willing to pay you, if you live in Japan, to have a baby. They're currently paying families $3,300 a year (which is like a lot of yen) for each baby until the age of 15.But it's not because Japan, known for its warm and friendly people, loves cuddling cute chubby babies. It turns out the country's old people are getting older, and they need more people to help pay for them, or something.
The problem is, most Japanese moms still do the bulk of household chores and child-rearing, so they're not in the mood to pop out yet another burden. To further entice these overburdened moms, the Japanese government is looking to increase the benefits to six grand a year, plus discounts on daycare and high-school tuition.
If only the US would give parents a break, other than tax credits. Then again, giving cold hard cash for cranking out kids in this country would only increase the welfare-mom population, give an even greater incentive (besides appearing on Maury) for 15-year-olds to get pregnant, and make the Duggars have 40 more children.
