The Obama Statues in Every Courtyard Is a Bit Too Much, However

Our President is delivering a speech to public schools throughout the land on Tuesday, and some (all right, just about all) conservatives are pretty pissed off.

They are afraid that Obama will be trying to start a cult of personality or indoctrinate our kids in Marxism.

Now, I am by no means the most ardent Obama supporter (I don't even know whether I support the guy at all), but the outrage sounds a little crazy.

I mean, I doubt he's going to talk about stimulus packages and bank takeovers and imposing socialism and health care and what a great guy Ted Kennedy was and taxes and making people change their middle names to "Hussein" and working out so much that your arms are as toned as his wife's.

Of course, if he did, he'd get a lot of flack for that.

In my son's case, the Obamappearance will be one of the first events in his public-school life, assuming they run a tape of it when he starts school on the Wednesday.

I'm not sure whether they'll be doing that for the kindergarteners, who probably won't need to hear (let alone understand) what will probably be a mostly harmless and generic "stay in school" message, unless my district has an epidemic of second-grade dropouts.

They could also run reruns of The Cosby Show for his class instead, since Jackson thinks every black person is Barack Obama anyway.
