I'm not going to aim both barrels at Joey Lawrence, who seemed to learn recently that gee, this parenting is actually a challenging daily exercise, because I think every parent — every dad, at least — experiences that "Why the hell didn't anyone tell me it was going to be like this?" moment early on.Two interesting observations from this otherwise useless article:
Joey's father-in-law told him that "the days seem long, but the years are so very short." I came to this conclusion early on, and I always think about a famous book I read called Man's Search for Meaning, where psychiatrist Viktor Frankl discussed this very notion of the short term moving slowly while the long term move quickly.
Only Frankl was discussing his time as a prisoner at a number of concentration camps, including Auschwitz. I'm by no means equating the struggles of parenting and Holocaust survival, but Frankl's book is good at putting certain things in perspective when you're practically at the end of your rope during that 3am bottle feeding.
I can't believe I was able to transition from Joey Lawrence to Viktor Frankl. I guess there's nothing else to add except...Whoa!
