And Think of the Trees Saved Now That Cars Don't Have That "Wood on the Sides" Look

Jalopnik's got a cool (and kinda sad) article about the stuff my (and your) kids will never experience in a new car, like cigarette lighters and roll-up windows. But since I don't expect to be buying either of my kids a new car, I am confident they'll experience these things after all.

I've been thinking quite often about the other things my kids won't experience. Consider the following:

  • Rotary phones

  • Station wagons

  • Beepers

  • Dial-up modems

  • Library card catalogs

  • Records and tapes


When my kids are a little (but not much) older, I'll find myself talking about these things in a creaky "in my day" sort of way, and they'll roll their eyes and think "oh crap, there goes Dad again."
